Reports To: Vice President of Client Care

Summary: 

Work schedule is Saturdays and Sundays from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm.  Responsible to provide client care for fill-in and scheduled shifts Responsible to provide homemaker and personal care services to individuals in their home. Duties may include but are not limited to chores, laundry, meal preparation, errands, respite care, companionship, assistance with transfers, ambulation, range-of-motion, bathing, toileting, activities of daily living (ADL’s), and medication assistance.  Responsible for following all program policies and procedures including documentation of duties, effective communication, and following time and attendance reporting protocol.  This job summary and the responsibilities and physical demands of the job set forth below are representative of those required for an employee to perform the essential functions of a Caregiver for FRHC.

Requirements:

  • One year experience in home care, hospital or nursing home setting
  • 18 years of age or older
  • Able to read, write, and understand English adequately, and to speak English fluently
  • Able to communicate and establish positive and productive relationships with FRHC office staff, clients and their families, licensed staff and others
  • Able to take initiative and organize a work load
  • Practice good personal hygiene
  • Must pass a Washington State Patrol criminal background check and other pre-employment checks
  • A good driving record, valid driver’s license, proof of automobile liability insurance in the amount equal to the minimum liability required by state law, and access to own private transportation
  • Ability to perform all aspects of the job description with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Ability and willingness to provide care for people from various backgrounds without regard to age, race, creed, religion, gender, veteran status, national origin, culture, sexual orientation, marital status or disability
  • Reachable by telephone or pager
  • Successful completion of orientation to FRHC’s policies and procedures

Responsibilities:

  • Will provide client care as scheduled, for start-up, emergency or fill-in assignments
  • Establish a positive relationship with client care and staffing supervisors to facilitate good communication and awareness of each other’s needs
  • Establish positive relationships with FRHC’s clients, client representatives, and client’s family, and communicate with the supervisor, client and/or family to ensure clear job responsibilities
  • Observe and report changes, incidents, concerns, and general information to the supervisor byphone and on Client Notes
  • Read and understand the client care plan and follow directions
  • Take direction from FRHC supervisors, clients, family members, licensed staff, and health care professionals
  • Provide care for people from various backgrounds without regard to age, creed, race, religion, gender, veteran status, national origin, culture, sexual orientation, marital status or disability
  • Perform general household chores, e.g.:bed making, linen changes, dusting, vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, dishes, laundry, cleaning bathrooms, and emptying the trash
  • Assist with meal preparation, plan and prepare meals, read a recipe and follow directives for special diets
  • Use household and kitchen appliances such as vacuum, toaster, stovetop and oven, safely and appropriately
  • Assist clients with, or perform personal care tasks such as bed or sponge bath, shower bathing, incontinence care, colostomy and ileostomy care, skin care and turn schedules, transfers, assistance with ambulation and range of motion, mouth care, reminders, and assistance with medication
  • Assist clients with, or perform activities of daily living, such as: shaving, oral hygiene, hair care, dressing and undressing, and assistance with make-up and oral feeding
  • Demonstrate knowledge and practice of Standard Precautions of infection control
  • Follow policies and procedures including but not limited to time and attendance, documentation, attendance, punctuality, behavior, and dress code
  • Promote independence and dignity for all clients
  • Represent Family Resource Home Care in a professional manner
  • Other duties as assigned from time to time

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, i.e., homemaking and personal care duties, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands, fingers, and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk or hear, taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job included close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Working Conditions

Caregivers work inside a client’s home or other residential setting and may be subject to various environmental conditions, both inside and out. All efforts are made by FRHC supervisory staff to ensure clean and safe working conditions. Caregivers must immediately inform a FRHC supervisor if conditions occur or are discovered which may affect the health or safety of a FRHC employee or client.
